MGC History:
The Multicultural Greek Council was established at UT Arlington to serve as a governing body, to create and maintain high standards in the life of culturally-based Fraternities and Sororities by addressing, managing and creating strategic programming. Additionally, MGC is tasked with unifying organizations involved in MGC by upholding higher education, providing community services, improving leadership and having a positive relationship between MGC, other Greek Councils, the university student body and administration, thus improving campus life.
How to join an MGC organization:
The Multicultural Greek Council hosts an event called "Meet & Greet" at the beginning of each semester for interested students. This event encourages interested students to meet members and learn more about MGC and its member organizations at UT Arlington. In addition, throughout the year individual chapters hold Informational Sessions (sometimes called Interest Meetings or Rush). Informational sessions give interested students and MGC chapters the chance to discuss the benefits of membership in greater detail. It is at the Informational Sessions where interested men and women are given an introduction to the specific organization, its members and information on chapter programs and policies on membership. MGC also encourages interested students to do independent research on a fraternity or sorority.
After a person applies to an organization and has been accepted, the new member education period begins. Typically, this period involves classroom sessions with a chapter advisor that educate potential new members about the history, policies, and programs of the organization. The overall Intake process is different for each fraternity and sorority, so interested students should consult a representative from the organization they wish to join for specific membership information. The University community does not know potential new members until they are initiated.
